Affordable Plus Size Clothing
Competition Can Be A Beautiful Thing
Not so long ago there really was no affordable plus size clothing. Fashion designers and clothing manufacturers pretty much ignored that part of the market and if you happened to wear that size there really wasn’t anywhere to shop around for the best price. To add insult to injury, the clothes that were available were certainly not of the same quality and variety that was being offered to the rest of the population. Terms like dowdy and dumpy could best describe plus size clothes of that time.
Well guess what. That has all changed. Today affordable plus sized clothing is just as available as any other sized clothing. Once designers understood that nearly half of American women were a size 12W and up, they decided that they really should be tapping into those clothing dollars. Where one goes the rest follow and suddenly plus size clothes were being offered by everybody.
When you have competition you typically get lower prices. Where before you went to a mall and maybe there was a Lane Bryant or a Talbot’s to choose from, now you can go into almost any department store and many of the women’s shops and fid sizes up to 5x or 44W. When you have more designers chasing the same dollars prices are going to fall in an effort to compete.
Even the big box stores like Wal-Mart and K-Mart carry large sizes now at their traditionally lower prices. Stores like Marshal’s or Ross’s that buy up overstock clothing now have as many styles in plus size as they do in smaller size. In other words, the plus size customer can now wade through all those racks looking for the right outfit just like everyone else does.
The big bonanza for affordable plus size clothing is on the internet. Retail prices slashed up to 65% are not uncommon. With some careful surfing a large woman can score some incredible deals online. Shopping online usually results in the lowest prices but it does have its drawbacks. Obviously you can’t touch the fabric or try the clothes on before you buy. The solution to this is to shop the brick and mortars and find a few brands that you know fit and that you can trust. Then limit your online searches to those brands. Even then, make sure the site you are buying from has an acceptable return policy.
So there are plenty of opportunities to find affordable plus size clothing the real challenge will be deciding what you want from the wide variety available to you.
